K Abby Jasper (created 2016) is the alias of New York musician Joey Fasolino. He makes music influenced by indie folk, experimental, ambient, rock and electronic, to create moody, atmospheric songs. In the writing process, pop structures can give way to manipulation of acoustic guitars, vocals and other instruments to create strange, eerie, yet compelling soundscapes. Arrangements can be heavily layered with reverb or stripped down to the bare minimum. K Abby Jasper is intentionally created to be a vehicle for the exploration of different emotions lending to different sounds overall, though there are frequent recurrences of tension, playfulness, and melancholia that come through the mixes.
Thematically, he is influenced by a deep connection to the natural world and his upbringing in New York's Hudson Valley, where environmental color and texture - as well as connection to the planet - feel abundant. Musical inspirations can also come in other forms such as personal challenges, spiritual sensibilities, and occasional cultural critique.
In addition to songwriting, Joey has scored five short films by New York-area directors, including 2022's "Be Nice to Fish" by Sam Russell, which won Best in Brooklyn at the Brooklyn SciFi Film Festival. He is also a visual artist - focusing on entity drawings - and is heavily inspired by film and scenic photography.
Upcoming EPs include the July 10th streaming release of the three-track "Separate the Sage" and a subsequent EP entitled "Videos of Nature" releasing late summer / early fall, which will include footage components of scenic spots in Hudson Valley, NY.
